ingredients for good health:
about acupuncture & chinese medicine
We promise that it really doesn’t hurt very much.
It’s normal to be apprehensive of sharp objects–we’re always nervous about the people who aren’t nervous about needles–but any initial discomfort is readily outweighed by the benefits (the immediate one being relaxation). By the way, acupuncture needles are absolutely sterile and are only used once. We have your safety and comfort in mind at every juncture.
Acupuncture has as many explanations as there are people in the world. So, we’ll explain how and why it works over the course of your treatments. Acupuncture has been around for a long time because it works for a lot of people. Plus, it produces endorphins, which make you feel good.
Although we at Acupuncture Kitchen specialize in fertility, pregnancy and women’s health issues, we have plenty of experience treating other areas of human health too.
Setting up a consultation with us is the first step to determine if acupuncture is right for you.
Chinese herbs are a time-tested method of treatment that we can offer you as a supplement to your acupuncture sessions. We have a fully stocked herbal pharmacy and can send you home with your customized prescription immediately following your appointment with us. Our acupuncturists are experienced, fully licensed herbologists who know how to blend each ingredient for the individual and their specific medical needs. We will take into account your Chinese as well as your Western diagnosis when prescribing your herbs, and we will also consider any other medication you may already be on.
While herbal remedies may sound old-fashioned, natural herbs are in fact the basis for many modern medications such as aspirin, which derives its active ingredient from willow bark. Instead of processing herbs into pill form, we utilize them in their original state, albeit dried and powdered. We are trained in herb-drug interactions and use very safe, effective herbs of the highest quality.
Taking Chinese herbs is easy–simply dissolve a few tiny spoonfuls into a little bit of warm water. Sometimes they don’t taste great, but herbs can be a valuable part of your treatment, although they are completely optional.
We also offer a hand-picked selection of vitamins and supplements that we believe are top-of-the-line in combating fertility issues and enhancing your overall health. Your practitioner will recommend supplements as needed.
We will suggest nutrition and lifestyle recommendations to help you complete your whole health picture. The idea is that eventually you won’t need us at all! Exercise, yoga, meditation and stress-relief are all vital components of a healthy life. We believe so strongly in these modalities that we offer a regular schedule of “extra-curricular classes” such as Qigong, Yoga for Fertility, Meditation, and a heart-healthy Book Club. See our Events page for information and dates.
